Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Independent, Chelsea boss Graham Potter has claimed that Reece James is in a good place after his World Cup snub and is ready for the season.
James was handed a harsh blow by Gareth Southgate who decided not to pick the Blues right-back despite him pushing himself physically to be fit for the showpiece event after an injury that he suffered.
The Chelsea defender was undoubtedly disappointed at the fact that Southgate decided not to take the risk with him, especially when the English manager took a very similar risk with Manchester City defender Kyle Walker.
Representing your nation at the World Cup is every player’s dream and James would have given anything to be on the plane to Qatar. However, he had to stay back at Blues as he saw his country crash out of the quarterfinals.
Potter did admit that it had been a few difficult weeks for James but he did reveal that the English international was psychologically ready to compete for the Blues for the rest of the season.
Here is what Potter had to say about James’ World Cup snub and how the Chelsea right wing-back coped up with the situation.
“It was a World Cup and they come around every four years. So when you’re young, the perspective is not so easy to get. I have to say he is in a good mood, he is in a good place. He has trained with us, is training well and is a good team-mate. He has dealt with it well”
James is one of the most talented fullbacks going around in the Premier League. He is one of those rare players who is equally good at getting forward and defending when required.
The Blues have a really special player on their hands. James also has added goalscoring to his arsenal and chips in with a finish now and then. He is a very rare commodity and it remains to be seen how Potter uses him.
Chelsea will be hoping that this is the last time they have to deal with an injury to their talented right-back. He has suffered too many injuries till now and let’s see how it goes from hereon.
