Everton closing in on a new contract with Chelsea target Anthony Gordon
According to The Telegraph, Everton are closing in on agreeing on a new contract with Anthony Gordon, who was a transfer target of Chelsea in the summer.
The Blues were eager to sign the young forward in the preceding summer window. But, they got outpriced by the demands of the Serie A champions.
The 21-year-old’s current deal at Goodison Park lasts until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). The Toffees are apparently looking to secure his long-term future at the club through the signature of the new deal.
Back in September, it was reported by Express that Chelsea, along with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur will go back to vying for Gordon’s signature in the January transfer window.
So what the contract extension from Everton can do is secure the long-term future of the player and also possibly ward off the interest from other clubs.
Gordon is a winger who can play on either side of the field and is capable of leading the line as well. For a player who seemed to be in Chelsea’s demand, has had a quiet season so far. He has scored only three goals in 14 league appearances.
But, we have seen at the back end of last season that the 21-year-old offers a lot more. He can run in behind, dribble past defenders, create chances and/or attract defenders towards himself for others to have space to have a shot on goal.
If he indeed signs the new contract, Chelsea’s hopes of signing him, either in January or in the coming summer, may vanish barring any miracle.

It may not be the end of the world though, as we are still in the race to sign AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, while Christopher Nkunku is set to become our player come next season. So, the forward-line revolution can yet take shape in the coming months.
