A View From The Bridge

Ex-Manchester United superstar still waiting for Chelsea approach despite £432m offer from elsewhere

Cristiano Ronaldo still open to approach from Chelsea after £432m offer from Al-Nasr

According to Sunday Mirror (h/t Metro), Cristiano Ronaldo is still open to an approach from Chelsea days after receiving a £432m offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasr.

Ronaldo mutually terminated his Manchester United contract a couple of weeks ago after that explosive interview with Piers Morgan. He wanted to leave Old Trafford in the summer as well, but no move materialised.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that the 37-year-old reached an agreement with Al-Nasr for a move to the Middle East. He is known as ‘Mr. Champions League’ for a reason and he still has the chance to correct the statistic of not playing in the UCL for the first time ever in his career this season.

Clubs outside Europe cannot provide that, which would mean that the Blues, who are in the last 16 of the competition, would be in the running for Ronaldo.

But, it has been cleared that the former Real Madrid superstar is yet to decide on his future and is solely focused on representing Portugal in the World Cup. He will not make a final decision until after the tournament.

He is still open to an approach from Chelsea though. The Blues were linked with him during the summer window as well, but former manager Thomas Tuchel blocked the move despite co-owner Todd Boehly wanting it to happen (Metro).

Since Ronaldo’s contract termination, Telegraph reported that Chelsea are not looking to sign him after the World Cup. But, it remains to be seen whether they stick by that or repeat the summer trick since Tuchel is no more at the helm.

Ronaldo hasn’t really set the World Cup stage alight yet. He has scored only one goal in three group games, that too coming from a penalty that was controversially awarded against Ghana.

Despite not being at his best, he was probably the best player in the United team last season, scoring 24 goals and assisting three in 38 appearances in all competitions.

He may not be a work-horse to close down defenders from the front, but when given the chance, he knows how to put it in the back of the net, irrespective of the pressure involved.

Chelsea have struggled for goals this season coming from the forward line. It may not be a bad idea to sign Ronaldo for half a season and see if it works. He can guarantee goals and the Blues do create a lot of chances that go waste.

We can still offer him the Champions League for the second half of this season, a competition he loves.
