Chelsea learn the price required to sign USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic (subscription required) (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have learned the price required to sign USMNT and Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah.
Since the World Cup started, the Blues have been linked with a move to sign the midfielder, who was part of the USA squad that reached the knock-out stages of the tournament before bowing out to the Netherlands.
It was previously reported that the 20-year-old, who has a contract with Valencia until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt), has a release clause of £86m in his contract.
But, due to the Spanish side’s current financial situation, which is not good, they are open to offers north of €20m to let the midfielder leave.
Musah played for the England U-19s before deciding to play for the US men’s senior team. He is a former Arsenal youth player who joined the Valencia B team in 2019 and played his first senior game in 2020.
The 20-year-old is a central midfielder by trade but he can operate in different positions across the centre of the field. He has also played as a winger and a fullback during his career so far.
In the first half of this season, he played 11 league games for Valencia, most of it coming as a central midfielder. He played in the same position for the USA in Qatar.
With regard to his attributes, Musah is a dynamic player who is good at quick coverage of the ground with and without the ball. He is a decent passer of the ball and likes to take his man on, even in tight spaces. His work rate is good without possession.
