Transfer News: Chelsea enter race to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker

Chelsea enter race to sign young Borussia Dortmund and Germany star Youssoufa Moukoko

According to The Secret Scout (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have entered the race and started talks with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund and Germany striker Youssoufa Moukoko for a possible move.

The recently-turned 18-year-old was part of the German squad that miserably failed in the World Cup. He only came on for the final few minutes in the defeat against Japan and sat on the bench for the other group games before catching a flight back to Germany.

Moukoko has risen through the ranks at Dortmund quite impressively in the last couple of years. His contract with the Bundesliga club expires at the end of this season (Transfermarkt). As we know the rules, foreign clubs can contact the player in January to sign a pre-contract agreement to arrive as a free agent in the summer.

Chelsea can do that from January 1 onwards. They are also looking at the possibility to sign the forward on a five-year deal with an option for the sixth. It is quite synonymous with recent contract extensions of Reece James and Armando Broja, the length of which was six years each.

Moukoko was in excellent form at Dortmund during the first half of this season. He scored six goals and assisted six in 22 appearances in all competitions. He is predominantly a centre-forward who can operate as a right-winger if required.

With regards to the attributes he possesses, the 18-year-old has good pace to make runs in behind the defence, is a clever finder of space in the opposition box and can drop deep to link up play and make space for others in the final third.

Chelsea did not hesitate in spending the money on top young talents in the new regime’s first transfer window. They made a coup in getting Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, Omari Hutchinson and co. It is all part of Todd Boehly’s ‘Vision 2030‘ plan which includes signing top young players to improve the youth team and increase competition for a place in the senior team.

Moukoko has a good collection of experience playing first-team football now. He can come in and be a great option for our forward line that has struggled for goals this season. He is still young enough to continue this development here.

More Chelsea News:

All in all, this sounds like a move we need to make before anybody else does. The Blues can save a lot of money if they are quick to bring Moukoko in before his hype reaches another level.
