Transfer News: Chelsea’s deal for AS Monaco star in its ‘final stages’

Transfer News: CChelsea closing in on AS Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile

According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football London), Chelsea are closing on Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile with the talks now set to be at an advanced stage and the player keen on a move.

It would be correct to say that the Todd Boehl era has started in blistering fashion with the American owner keen to recruit young talented players from across Europe as part of the club’s Vision 2030, which emphasises a model which signifies an investment in acquiring and developing players with huge potential.

French U-21 defender Badiashile has been very impressive for Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco and at such a young age, has already made 135 appearances for the club.

It speaks about the level of maturity and trust shown by managers in the player who has shown tremendous potential to reach the very top.

It is seen as part of Chelsea’s strategy to create a team filled with young exciting talents as has been seen with the acquisitions of Christopher Nkunku, Carney Chukweameka, Cesane Caderei and Gabriel Slonina not to forget the summer addition of Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.

Manchester United and FC Barcelona have also been circling around the player’s signature but it seems like the defender has made his final decision and as noted above, is keen on the move to Stamford Bridge.

Boehly has been particularly impressive with the manner in which he has handled the club’s incoming and outgoings since taking over the role from Roman Abramovich.

With talents like Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana also in the mix, Badiashile would be the third potential signing in what is turning out to be an impressive January transfer window until now.

For a fee touted in the region of €35million-€40million, we are getting one of the best young French defenders around and being a left-footer, would provide Graham Potter with another dimension to play with.
