“Not performing”- Chelsea urged not to sign struggling Manchester United attacker

Chelsea are urged not to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho

Speaking to GGRecon (h/t Football.London), former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged the Blues to not sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.

It was reported by Football.London that Chelsea are looking for a shock move to sign Sancho once they offload the out-of-winger USA international Christian Pulisic.

Sancho, the former Borussia Dortmund winger, who arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2021, has yet to shine in the Premier League. As a result, he has been down the pecking order in the team under Erik ten Hag.

Here’s what Johnson said when asked about the Englishman potentially moving to Chelsea (h/t Football.London):

“No [Sancho wouldn’t flourish at Chelsea]. He’s not doing it at Manchester United, which is a place where he can prove if he can do it in the Premier League.

“I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I’ve seen him play for Manchester United. Chelsea aren’t going to want somebody who’s not performing for Manchester United because if you can’t get into United’s team then you’re not getting into Chelsea’s team.”

After United paid the big bucks to sign him last year, Sancho has scored only eight goals and assisted four in 52 appearances in all competitions for them. It is an under-par return compared to how good he was for Dortmund.

The 23-year-old was dropped from a trip to Spain with the team for a mid-season training camp ahead of the start of the second half of this season. It was revealed that he is working on an individual training programme at the moment.

Ten Hag later commented that he is unsure whether Sancho will return to the team, as the player is dealing with a lack of physical and mental fitness (Guardian).

In no way this seems like a normal situation. Sancho is still young and is going through a rough patch. He should get the required support from United to get him back in shape, at least from the mental side of things.

More Chelsea News:

And Johnson is right that Chelsea can do better than signing the 23-year-old. The Blues themselves have issues with a misfiring forward line. So, signing a completely out-of-form and confidence-deprived player isn’t an inspiring move.
