Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football.London), agent of Chelsea Malang Sarr, who is currently on loan at AS Monaco, has spoken about his current spell and revealed talks with AC Milan.
After moving to Monaco on a season-long loan in the summer, Sarr has managed to play only 411 minutes of football in all competitions in the first half of this season.
Keeping that in mind, Sarr’s agent Federico Pastorello has acknowledged that the player’s loan spell with the Ligue 1 side could be earlier than anticipated.
Here’s what he said regarding that (h/t Football.London):
“He is a boy I would see very well in Italy. At Monaco his playing time is limited, but they are happy with him, we will see if they will let him leave as soon as offers arrive.
“But clearly there is a bit of disappointment on the part of the boy, he would have liked to find more playing time by moving from Chelsea.”
Pastorello then shed light on what the defender’s future is looking like. He talked about how the young Frenchman was close to joining Serie A side Torino, and that Milan are following him for some time and could make a move to sign him.
“But I repeat, for me, the Italian league would be the ideal one for him. I won’t hide the fact that AC Milan also followed him for a long time: with Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini I discussed it a lot when his contract was expiring, and they could have signed him. At Milan he would have found an easier path than the one he had at Chelsea.”
Sarr arrived at Chelsea from Nice as a free transfer in the summer of 2020. He then spent a season on loan at FC Porto before coming back to Stamford Bridge at the start of last season.
He made a total of 21 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last season, some of it not coming from the start. So, it was clear that he may have to leave the club on loan to get more playing time. As it stands, the move to Monaco hasn’t yielded the sort of game time he would have been after.
Hence, it makes sense as to why the 23-year-old’s agent is acknowledging the fact that his stay in France could be cut-short. Will a move to Italy suit him? It is something the player can answer.
We have seen two young Chelsea players – Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham, leaving Chelsea and doing extremely well in the Serie A. Maybe, Sarr could follow that path towards gaining a reputation as a player.
He isn’t a remarkable player right now but has the potential to be a world class player one day. Chelsea would be wise to bide their time and take a decision on him after at least one more year or they could live to regret the situation if he does leave them soon and becomes a top player elsewhere.
