Chelsea are believed to be weighing up a move for Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey should Christian Pulisic leave. This is according to the Daily Mail (h/t Birmingham Mail).
The Blues are anticipating interest in the American winger, who is desperate to improve his game time at the club. Since moving to the club in 2019 from Borussia Dortmund, the 24-year-old has struggled to cement himself in the first team.
Pulisic has played in 18 games so far this season in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process. The USMNT international has, however, only started in five of them.
Nevertheless, it seems the west London side are already looking for replacements and seem to have identified one. Bailey joined Villa last summer from Bayer Leverkusen for £30 million, but struggled with injuries last season.
He has however this season been a regular for the Midlands club, featuring in 16 games so far in all competitions. Graham Potter could do with a pacey winger like him.
The player has relatively good Premier League experience and has an exceptionally good pace. He is also believed to have a good friendship with Raheem Sterling, something the Blues can pay off on the pitch too.
Chelsea have been interested in the 25-year-old for some time now. They have been tracking him since his KRC Genk and Leverkusen days. But now, the Blues could finally bring him to west London in January.
Villa have a new manager in Unai Emery. The Spaniard needs some time to assess the squad at his disposal. Whether he will be willing to part ways with the Jamaican international in January should Chelsea come calling remains to be seen.
