Edouard Mendy is contemplating a move away from Chelsea after losing first team spot to Kepa Arrizabalaga
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is contemplating a move away from the club amid concerns that his first-team appearances may be limited, according to the Daily Mail.
The Senegal international established himself as the club’s undisputed number-one choice since making the move to west London in 2020 from French side Stade de Rennes in a deal worth £22 million.
However, his position as number one has been in doubt ever since Graham Potter took charge of the club. Kepa Arrizabalaga started games for the new manager during a period in which Mendy was suffering from a knee injury.
During those games, Kepa looked to have regained his form and was absolutely phenomenal in between the sticks. However, an injury to the Spaniard has seen Mendy return to the squad.
Mendy has started the last four games for his side in all competitions and has featured in a total of 11 games so far for his side in all competitions. But, such a recent run of games has not eased the fear that Potter will prefer Arrizabalaga over him when the league resumes next month.
Also, some reports suggest that the Blues are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion keeper Robert Sanchez. Such a rumour is very less likely to help the case of the 30-year-old Senegal international.
It is highly unlikely that Chelsea will let Mendy leave in January. The 30-year-old is expected to be Senegal’s first-choice keeper at the World Cup in Qatar and decent performances there could attract potential suitors.

Mendy would be wise to stay and fight for his place against Arrizabalaga, rather than looking to leave. The Senegal international has been a fan favourite since his arrival and the faithful would like to see him stay at the club for as long as possible.
