Chelsea keen to sign 25-year-old Manchester United star playing in World Cup

Transfer News: Chelsea eyeing a move for Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford

Chelsea are believed to be eyeing a move for Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford. This is according to Simon Jones on substack (h/t Football. London).

The 25-year-old was on the radar of the Blues during the summer. However, nothing came of the interest. But Jones has provided a new update that the west London club are still interested in the England international.

“His contract situation is an interesting one, and he has been unsettled since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival. I’m told Chelsea are still keeping an eye on the situation still now, even after Tuchel’s departure.”

Rashford sees his current contract expire next summer. It is however believed that Erik ten Hag considers the forward an important player and the club is preparing to offer a new deal to the 25-year-old.

It is not surprising that the club want to keep him. The 25-year-old has been one of their best players this season and is a regular under Ten Hag having played in 19 games for the Red Devils so far in all competitions, scoring eight goals in the process.

He was also on the scoresheet against Iran during the Three Lions opening group-stage game in the FIFA World Cup. The 25-year-old came off the bench to score within 49 seconds as England ran out winning 6-2.

Graham Potter could do with a quick attacker like him. The futures of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are uncertain and the United forward would make a very good replacement for either of them, should they leave.

Rashford has been in good form this season and a good World Cup will likely have more clubs taking an interest in him. It will be wise for the Blues to up their interest and make a move for the forward.

But United are preparing to offer him a new contract and the player has been a boyhood fan of the club. Whether the 25-year-old would be willing to join a rival remains to be seen.

More Chelsea News:

He would surely be a smart addition to our attack given his ability to play out wide and down the middle. He is also a tried and tested player in England and prising him away from a ‘big six’ rival would also make a potential deal all the more exciting.
