Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha has remained coy on his future amidst links to Arsenal and Chelsea but admitted that he was very happy to play for the Eagles.
A legend of Crystal Palace in his own right, this is definitely not the first or the last time that Zaha is being linked with a big-money move to one of the Premier League giants. Zaha did play for Man United for a brief while but it did not really pay off back then.
The Ivory Coast international’s future at Selhurst Park has been under speculation with his contract set to expire in 2023 (Transfermarkt). There have been rumours of Palace offering him a new deal but Zaha is yet to put pen to paper to extend his contract.
In 12 games this season for Palace in the Premier League, Zaha has six goals and has provided two assists. Undoubtedly the talisman for Patrick Viera’s side, the former English international is very important to every single thing that the Eagles do.
With all the contract uncertainty surrounding him, Zaha has been heavily linked with a move to both Arsenal and Chelsea. Both clubs are said to want to sign the winger on a free transfer but it may not be as easy in convincing the player to leave Palace.
Speaking about his future, Zaha admitted that he did not know what was in store but reiterated that he was very happy at Crystal Palace.
“My contract is up when my contract is up – I’m a Crystal Palace player. The only thing I’m focused on is doing well for the club. That’s it. I take every day as it comes because I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I’m very devoted to Palace and that’s all I’m thinking about.”
The 29-year-old will be a great acquisition for any team for free. He has a proven Premier League pedigree and that always counts for something when it comes to signing players. Zaha will not need a period of adaptation and can start helping in attack instantly.
Chelsea have looked very flat in attack and are unable to score goals consistently. Having a player like Zaha on the left who is a genuine goal threat will also help the striker get space and this could be a very shrewd signing by the Blues if they do it.
There are certain players you cannot say no to, especially on a free transfer and Zaha is just that kind of a player. Let’s see how his future pans out and if this interest from the Blues becomes anything significant.
