“That is the reality”- Chelsea boss Graham Potter takes dig at Thomas Tuchel with trophies claim

Graham Potter takes a dig at Thomas Tuchel with Chelsea claim

Speaking in an interview before the game last night as quoted by Mirror, Graham Potter has taken a dig at former boss Thomas Tuchel with a claim that the Blues have not been competing in the last three-four years and that’s his main objective after getting appointed Chelsea boss recently.

Potter, who was the manager of Brighton at that time, was convinced by Chelsea to be at the helm of their project. The English manager had a good start to life as Blues boss but all that has quickly evaporated with losses to his former club and Arsenal.

Last night, Potter could not lead his team to a victory against Manchester City, losing 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side and crashing out of the Carabao cup. Whilst it is not the most prestigious of competitions, it will be a disappointment for the Blues to crash out so early.

In what was a rather surprising claim, Potter has said that Chelsea have not been competitive for quite some time now. He said that his main objective is to make the Blues competitive again and get them back to the top of English football during his time.

Whilst there might be some truth to his claims, it is not clear as to whether Potter was taking a dig at former boss Tuchel. The German coach had a fairly successful time as the boss of Chelsea and he definitely did make the team very competitive for most parts.

It must not be forgotten that Tuchel led the Blues to an unlikely Champions League win just months after being appointed as the boss. It was a rather inspiring run from Chelsea that season who impressively beat Manchester City in the finals that year.

Speaking about Chelsea, Graham Potter made quite a weird revelation about the club’s state in the past few years before him.

“I think we all know that we’re not at that point now, and we haven’t been for two or three or four years. That is the reality when you look at the league table and the points difference between the top two and Chelsea.”

Yes, Chelsea have been off the pace when it comes to the Premier League in recent seasons but they have definitely not been not competitive. Winning a Premier League depends on a lot of factors and sometimes like last season, the Blues were just unlucky.

It remains to be seen if Potter lives up to his word and makes Chelsea win the Premier League. If he can, then the Blues will be very happy with this appointment.
