Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters unlikely to join Chelsea after interest in summer
According to Fabrizio Romano in his Daily Briefing exclusively via CaughtOffside’s Substack (h/t Football. London), Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters is unlikely to join Chelsea in the upcoming summers after there was interest in the fullback from the Blues in the summer.
The 25-year-old English full-back plays his football for Southampton. He joined the Saints from Tottenham Hotspur in 2020 and has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest attacking full-backs in the Premier League with his performances.
A product of the Spurs academy, Walker-Peters did not get a proper chance to establish himself at North London due to the presence of other options but the potential was always there for everyone to see. He has since established himself as a solid player for Southampton whilst Spurs are struggling for a right-back.
This season, Walker-Peters has played 11 times for Southampton in the Premier League scoring one goal. He even made his full England debut and has two caps against his name, although he did not make the cut to the World Cup squad.
One big advantage that the 25-year-old possesses is his ability to play on either wing. Comfortable playing as a right-footed player on the left side, Walker-Peters reminds you of Manchester City star Cancelo with his versatility to play on either side.
Chelsea were supposedly very interested in signing the talented player back in the summer but eventually, a move did not go through as the Blues made no concrete offer and it is being claimed that the club are unlikely to return for the Southampton man.
The Blues have one of the best right-backs in the world in Reece James but the English international is really injury-prone and needs a quality backup option. In his absence, Chelsea have tried Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and even Christian Pulisic in that position to minimal success.
Chelsea will need to find a replacement for James who can cover for him but Kyle Walker-Peters is talented enough to start for a top club. He might not want to accept a bit-part role and the Blues will have to look at other options.

It remains to be seen who the Blues earmark as the player brought in to cover for James. It may not be the Southampton man but there are enough options in the market.
