Real Madrid eyeing Chelsea target Moises Caicedo as Luka Modric’s replacement
According to Fichajes via The Daily Mail (h/t football.london), Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder and Chelsea target Moises Caicedo is being eyed by Real Madrid as a replacement for Luka Modric.
The Spanish giants’ president Florentino Perez has picked the Ecuadorian as the successor to the Croatian superstar. The former Ballon d’Or winner is in the final year of his contract with Los Blancos and his future at the Santiago Bernabeu is uncertain at the moment.
Caicedo has been identified as the player to fill the 2018 World Cup runner-up’s shoes in Madrid. The European champions are impressed with the 21-year-old’s versatility in the middle of the park.
Although, the Ecuadorian is not the only player Los Blancos have on their list. The La Liga outfit are also keeping tabs on Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez, Florian Wirtz and Bruno Guimaraes.
Caicedo has been impressive for Brighton since breaking out at the Amex earlier this year. And the Seagulls have placed a £68 million price tag on the midfielder’s head.
Chelsea are interested in the 21-year-old because of the uncertain futures of some of their own stars. Both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are set to be free agents next summer, with their contracts with the Blues expiring in 2023.
The French national has had troubles with injuries since the previous campaign. As such, the 31-year-old has not featured for the Stamford Bridge side as much as fans would like.
On the other hand, some spectators have not been convinced with Jorginho since his arrival from Napoli in 2018. However, the Euro 2020 winner has found form in the last few weeks.
