Plettenberg: Christopher Vivell on verge of being named new technical director at Chelsea
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg (h/t Football. London), Christopher Vivell is on the verge of being named the new Technical Director at Chelsea.
The former RB Leipzig man was dismissed from his role as technical director of the club in early October and could now be on his way to joining the west London club.
It is believed that the German will assume the same responsibilities which he had with the German club and will head the squad planning and handling of the transfers among others.
Should the move go through, the 35-year-old will become the first Sporting Director of the west London outfit since Michael Emenalo in 2017. He could also become the most important addition to the backroom staff under the new ownership of Todd Boehly.
Vivell has been credited to find a pool of talents during his time at the Bundesliga club with the most recent being Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
The Blues appointed current manager Graham Potter in September after the summer window closed. The boss is yet to make a new signing under his reign, and now he could get help from an experienced person known for unearthing young talents.
Chelsea were linked with two Leipzig players, Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol, last month ahead of the January transfer window. It would be a welcome surprise if the former Leipzig man begins his term with the Blues by negotiating transfers from his old club.
