A View From The Bridge

“If Chelsea accept my humble advice”- Pep Guardiola sends Graham Potter message to Blues

Pep Guardiola advises Chelsea to give Graham Potter the necessary time needed to deliver success

Speaking to the media ahead of the cup tie (h/t Evening Standard), Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has advised Chelsea to give Graham Potter the required time for him to deliver success.

The Blues are winless in four league games with the last two being defeats, that too in a comprehensive manner against Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal.

Potter was appointed on September 7 after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel. He made a great start to life at Stamford Bridge, but things have taken a downturn in the last few games.

Here’s Guardiola on why the Blues boss needs time from the club before expecting success (h/t Evening Standard):

“If Chelsea accept my humble advice, give him time and he will do well. They got good results but the way they play, when I saw the game against Brighton that they lost, I saw many things I remember from his period in Brighton. But he needs time, everybody needs time.

“No one has success from day one or two, I have a lot of admiration for his work. What he did at Brighton was beyond exceptional and I’m pretty sure with time he will do a good job, I don’t have any doubts. He is one of the best managers, from my point of view, we have in this league.”

To be fair to Potter, the schedule has been intense since he arrived at the club to add to the fact that he did not have pre-season with the players to fully implement his ideas.

For that reason, the upcoming World Cup break would offer him an opportunity to not just take a break but formulate a way to get better results in the second half of the season.

Chelsea have a Carabao Cup tie against Manchester City tonight in a game where we might see changes made to the usual starting XI. Hence, there could be opportunities for fringe and academy players to showcase their talent.

After this, the Blues have a tough away game against Newcastle United in the league on Saturday. Having already fallen behind in the top-four race in the last few weeks, they could ill afford to lose that game against the direct rivals.

More Chelsea News:

From Potter’s viewpoint, even not winning the remaining two games before the break would not make his position at the club precarious. The fans and the owners need to have patience and give him time to work and succeed.

The way they sacked Tuchel showed they have an immense amount of belief in the Englishman considering how wildly popular and successful the German was in his brief time in west London.
