Omari Hutchinson told not to report for Jamaica; in contention to feature for Chelsea against Manchester City

Chelsea have told Omari Hutchinson not to report for international duty for Jamaica, with the youngster in contention to feature against Manchester City, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required). The Blues take on the Cityzens on Wednesday (9 November).

Graham Potter will take on Pep Guardiola’s team in the third round of the Carabao Cup. On the same day, the Reggae Boyz are set to take on Cameroon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

The 19-year-old has already played for Jamaica in a friendly. And they have invited the young playmaker to feature for them against World Cup-bound Cameroon.

However, it seems Hutchinson could make the squad that is set to take on the Premier League Champions. The 19-year-old has already made Potter’s bench earlier. He was an unused substitute in the 4-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The playmaker was part of the Blues’ academy before going to Charlton Athletic. He then made his way to North London with Arsenal and spent seven years with the Gunners’ youth teams.

Under Mikel Arteta, the 19-year-old made Arsenal’s bench on a few occasions. He was an important player for the North London side’s U23s.

Hutchinson came back to Chelsea in the recent transfer window. And he has impressed with the reserve side. And Potter looks to be open to giving the young player’s in the squad a chance.

Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, Carney Chukwuemeka and Trevoh Chalobah have seen relatively more game time under the former Seagulls head coach than they did under Thomas Tuchel.

However, it remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old gets a chance to make his debut for the senior side against City. We are coming off two losses in the English top flight. Hopefully, the Stamford Bridge side can turn things around at the Etihad Stadium.
