A View From The Bridge

Inter Milan among two Serie A teams tracking 24-year-old Chelsea star

Inter Milan and Juventus battling to sign Chelsea and USMNT winger Christian Pulisic

According to Spanish newspaper Fichajes (h/t Daily Mail), Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus are vying for the signature of Chelsea and USMNT winger Christian Pulisic after the World Cup.

The 24-year-old, who played well and assisted the only USA goal against Wales in the tournament opener, has struggled for minutes at the club level this season and may look for a move away from Stamford Bridge sooner than later.

Pulisic has been on the fringes under every manager at Chelsea so far. He was linked with a move away from Chelsea in the summer itself with Manchester United in the fray, but a deal did not materialise. Newcastle United have been linked with him since.

Now, it seems as if the former Borussia Dortmund man’s time in west London is all but over after the World Cup. He is under contract with the club until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). So, if he has a good time in Qatar, Chelsea may increase a few quids on the price tag for clubs to sign him.

It is rather disappointing to see a player, who had so much potential when he first arrived at Chelsea, not able to fulfil his promise in a Chelsea shirt.

Pulisic played only 607 minutes for the Blues in the first half of this season, scoring one goal and assisting twice. Throughout his Chelsea career, he has 26 goals and 21 assists in 133 appearances in all competitions.

A good World Cup for Pulisic may help Chelsea in increasing his price tag.

Pulisic has his strengths. He is fast, he can dribble well, and he is a livewire in the final third – but it just hasn’t seemed to have worked at Chelsea. A move to Italy – a different league and a change of scenery – could perhaps rejuvenate his career.

More Chelsea News:

If he does leave in January, Graham Potter and his men would need to find an upgraded replacement in the same transfer window. Either way, we need additions in the forward line for the second half of this season; otherwise scoring goals would be a struggle.
