Speaking to NOS (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Chelsea winger and Morocco international Hakim Ziyech gave a mixed response when asked about his future at Stamford Bridge.
Ziyech, who is currently representing his nation in the World Cup in Qatar, has been linked with a move away from Chelsea since the summer transfer window.
As reported in Football.London, the 29-year-old was determined to do well in the World Cup to urge Serie A champions AC Milan to sign him in January.
A few weeks ago, Metro reported that Milan chiefs did have a conversation with the player’s representatives regarding a potential deal. A six-month loan deal is a possibility come January (Evening Standard).
Ziyech has been on the fringes at Chelsea since he arrived at the club in the summer of 2020. Neither of the three managers at Stamford Bridge has given him regular game time. Injuries have not helped the cause at times as well.
The former Ajax man played a total of 270 minutes in all competitions for the Blues in the first half of this season. It seems as if he won’t get much game time here going forward.
However, if the 29-year-old does well in the remainder of the World Cup, manager Graham Potter may get attracted by that and offer him more minutes on the pitch.
It is a bit of a shame for us to see Ziyech not being able to replicate in a Chelsea shirt what he did for Ajax. For context, he scored six goals and assisted 13 in 21 league appearances in his last season in Amsterdam.
Though at the moment the best bet for both parties is to part ways, we never know what the future tells us. If he doesn’t secure a move away from the Bridge in January, it could be a career-defining second half of the season for him at Chelsea.
