Conor Gallagher thinks Reece James is the strongest player at Chelsea
Speaking to JD Official (h/t Football.London), Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher had no hesitation in naming Reece James as the strongest player at the club.
While Gallagher is linking up with the England squad for the World Cup after making it to the final 26-man list, James misses out due to an injury he picked up against AC Milan last month and not recovering in time.
The 22-year-old, who had a great season on loan at Crystal Palace last season, is having a breakthrough season in the Chelsea senior team this time around. Although the team was not in good form for the first half of the season, he was one of the standout performers.
Here’s what Gallagher said when asked about the strongest player at Chelsea (h/t JD Official):
“This is easy. There are actually a few, but just because I grew up with him [James] and know what he’s like. He’s just a beast. He’s powerful and strong, and you can’t get the ball off him.”
James has been one of the best players in the Chelsea line-up in the past two-three seasons. Although injuries hampered the latter half of last season and the first half of this season, his numbers and performances have been top-notch whenever on the field.
The 22-year-old has seven goals and 14 assists in 89 league appearances for the Blues, including five goals and nine assists in 26 appearances last season.
His injury not only hampered Chelsea’s form in the last few weeks but also be missed in the England setup, especially in a tournament like the World Cup where a moment of quality from him could change the landscape of a game.
With regards to Gallagher’s claims, not many come close to the strength that James possesses. For that reason, he is one of the best wing backs in the game who can go forward and create chances, while being a monster defensively.
