Steven Gerrard reveals he is a ‘massive fan’ of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
Former Liverpool midfielder and legend Steven Gerrard has said that he is a ‘massive fan’ of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The Blues midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool recently.
The 23-year-old sees his current contract expire in 2024. The club has been in talks for renewal, although it is believed that the length of the new deal being offered is proving to be a hindrance.
Currently, talks have been paused between the two parties until after the World Cup. The west London side are confident that the Cobham graduate will sign a new deal after feeling positive from the latest round of negotiations.
Mount is currently away with England for the World Cup. The midfielder is expected to play for Gareth Southgate’s side this season and now former Reds legend Gerrard has heaped praise on the Chelsea player. (h/t Football. London)
“I’m a massive fan of Mason. I’ve watched his [Mount] progress – of course I have. He’s a big talent for the country. He plays with a smile on his face. He can create, he can score, and he’s already a European Cup winner, so I don’t think he needs the likes of myself to big him up or praise him. But I must say I’m a fan.”
The midfielder has been a regular for the Blues since breaking into the first team. While the 23-year-old has struggled for form this season, recent games under Graham Potter have shown that the midfielder could be coming back to his best.
He has featured in 21 games this season in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering a further six assists in the process. Mount is also expected to play a crucial part for his country this year in Qatar.

Chelsea will be wise to agree on a new deal with the 23-year-old as soon as possible. A fan favourite at the Bridge, a decent performance at the World Cup could have multiple clubs knocking on the Blues’ door for the signature of the midfielder.
