“I can’t lie”- Raheem Sterling labels Chelsea teammate as the “fastest man in the world”

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling had nothing but praise for fellow striker Armando Broja

Chelsea and England international Raheem Sterling has praised fellow clubmate and Albanian international Armando Broja. The former Manchester City man is currently in Qatar for the World Cup while Broja is enjoying a month-long break.

Speaking to UMM (h/t Express), Sterling was asked whether he was the quickest player at the club. The winger gave a surprising answer and then went on to praise the player.

“No, it’s Armando Broja. He’s the fastest man in the world. When people see him properly… yeah. I can’t lie, I’ve been telling my friends outside the club that he’s the next one. It’s him. I’ve heard a lot of things about him without ever really watching him. But he’s the truth.”

The England international was bought in this summer as a marquee signing, but the 27-year-old is yet to live up to the hype. He has struggled for form at the west London club this season, while Broja is yet to establish himself as a starter.

Sterling has played in 19 games so far this season in all competitions, scoring five goals in the process. He was also on the scoresheet when England thrashed Iran 6-2 for their opening game in the FIFA World Cup.

Broja meanwhile made the team after impressing everyone on loan at Southampton last season. The 21-year-old is one of the brightest prospects in the team and has shown his potential in games this season.

Graham Potter does not trust him enough still, with the Albanian playing in 18 games so far in all competitions, but starting in only three of them. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz are still above him in the pecking order.

Chelsea fended off bids for West Ham United, while Spanish giants Real Madrid made inquiries about him in the summer. Such interest from clubs, particularly Madrid shows how highly rated he is. The Blues have a gem in their hands and they know it.

While he may not be a starter, he has shown glimpses of what he can offer if played more. Potter is a coach known for working and improving youngsters and it won’t be long before the 21-year-old is a regular for the club, while he is already one for his country.

More Chelsea News:

We all know how important pace can be for attackers – and for a speed demon like Sterling to say such things about Broja means the Albanian is rapid – but it’s nothing if other facets of the game are lacking. If Broja works and improves in other areas, he can be a brilliant player for us.
