Chelsea and Brazil international defender Thiago Silva feels he is the best version of himself currently
Chelsea and Brazil international defender Thiago Silva feels he is the ‘best version’ of himself currently. The 38-year-old is currently in Qatar with Brazil for the World Cup.
Silva joined the Blues in the summer of 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. Since then, the Brazilian has been phenomenal for us at the back.
While speaking ahead of his country’s opener against Serbia later today, the 38-year-old feels he is the best version of himself at the moment. (h/t Football. London)
“I am now enjoying the best version of Thiago Silva. I think now, at my age, I am living the best moments of my career. I also have other personal fulfilments, I have a beautiful family that is a great support to me.”
There is no doubt that the Brazilian is playing some of his best football right now. He has been one of our best defenders for some time now, despite his age and new additions at the back in the summer.
A trusted player by Graham Potter, the 38-year-old has featured in 17 games so far this season in all competitions, registering two assists in the process. He also has the highest minutes by any Blues player this season, with the veteran playing 1,458 minutes so far.
Silva sees his current contract expire next summer. While there have been no talks as such, it is expected that it will happen once the World Cup is over. The defender himself wants to keep playing till 40, whether at Chelsea or elsewhere.
With the way the 38-year-old has been performing, the Blues are likely to offer him a new deal. The veteran centre-back is in contention to start the game later today for Brazil and a good performance there will only increase his chance of getting a new deal at the west London club.
