According to French outlet Le10Sport (h/t Express), RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is set to join Chelsea next summer with everything done to complete this deal.
The 25-year-old had a release clause of around £51.9, which Chelsea were willing to match and better. He did sign a new deal to keep him in Germany till the summer of 2026, but now it seems he will be in England come July 1, 2023.
The French international, who was included in the final 26-man squad for the World Cup, picked up an injury in the national team training and has to miss out on the tournament, unfortunately.
He was in fantastic form for Leipzig this season, following on from an impressive outing throughout the course of the last campaign, culminating in him winning the Bundesliga Player of the Year.
Nkunku scored 35 goals and assisted 20 in 52 appearances in all competitions. For this campaign so far, he has 17 goals and four assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.
The good thing about the former Paris-Saint Germain player is that he can play in any position across the forward line and be equally dangerous. He is great on the ball with his directness, can dribble past defenders, and has a good sense of picking out space in the opposition box to score goals.
Chelsea have an issue in the forward line this season. Both summer signings Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang haven’t done well so far.
Nkunku is the type of player who would be an upgrade to any position in that department for the Blues. He is an exciting player who can score goals, create chances and cause havoc for the opposition defenders.
We could really do with his presence in the final third, making the much-needed difference and winning games.
