According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are keeping track of and targeting the rising England U16 star Triston Rowe of Aston Villa.
Rowe, who is currently playing for the Villa U21 side despite being only 16 years of age, joined the club’s youth setup in the summer of 2021, arriving from fellow West Midlands club West Bromwich Albion.
The England U16 international is a fullback by trade who can play on either side and can be used as a centre-back as well. In eight games in all competitions this season, Rowe has managed an assist to his name.
Chelsea scouts have been tracking him since the Albion days, having seen him make the move to Aston Villa and have been impressed with his performance for the U21s this season.
The Blues spent a considerable amount of money on buying young talents from English and European clubs in the summer transfer window. Cesare Casadei, Omari Hutchinson and Carney Chukwuemeka were the players added, the latter signed from Villa itself.
Since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake takeover, there has been an increased budget to get the youth team stronger than ever so that they can fight for a spot in the first team soon. The plan is called ‘Vision 2030‘.
Having set a precedent for signing top teenage players in the summer, the Chelsea hierarchy is keen to continue on that trend in the coming transfer windows.
Rowe is a quality player at his age who has a bright future in him. The Blues have one of the best academies in world football where young players come and usually develop into elite stars in a few years’ time.
Rowe has the talent to do that. It depends on whether Chelsea would push on with this move and get him across to west London soon but there is no reason why we shouldn’t get behind a potential move for the youngster.
