“You dream of it”- Chelsea star admits going to the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the ‘pinnacle’ for him

Chelsea star Mason Mount admits playing for England at the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the pinnacle

Speaking to the Telegraph (h/t Football. London), Chelsea star Mason Mount admits that playing the World Cup is the pinnacle and top of the football game.

Mount has been selected in the final 26-man England squad that will fly to Qatar in a bid to bring the trophy back to the country for the first time since 1966.

The 23-year-old was at the beginning of his career during the last World Cup in 2018. In the last few months, he has been one of the better players in the international team.

Here’s what Mount said regarding the dream of representing his nation in a World Cup (h/t Football.London):

“I think playing for your country and especially a World Cup is the pinnacle. It’s what you dream of as a kid. It’s what I watched as a kid growing up, looking up to my idols, playing for England in these major tournaments. You dream of it, so I definitely think this is the pinnacle, this is the top of the game for football.”

For the Chelsea academy, this would be a proud moment to see another one of their young stars developing themselves and playing the game at the highest level possible. The loan spell at Derby County in 2018/19 has played a hand in raising the maturity level of his game as well.

Mount has had a middling season for the Blues so far, with two goals and six assists in 20 appearances in all competitions. The team not playing well and going through a change in manager at the start can be the reasons behind the slow going.

Maon Mount is a regular for Chelsea and England

The 23-year-old would hope that he is in the starting line-up for England’s first game against Iran on November 20. In tournaments, generally, a good start leads to a player having a great time throughout. Will Mount be in from the start? Well, only Gareth Southgate can answer that.

More Chelsea News:

Before that though, there is an important league game away at Newcastle United to navigate. With no wins in the league in the last four games, going into the mid-season break at the back of five winless games would not be ideal. So, Mount and his Chelsea mates ought to be looking at a win before they disperse for different duties.
