Chelsea star Christian Pulisic injured in USA’s clash against Iran
According to Football. London, Chelsea star Christian Pulisic has been injured in the clash against Iran and his future with the USA in the World Cup has been thrown in jeopardy.
The USMNT star was on the scoresheet as his nation progressed to the next round of the World Cup as the second-placed team behind England in their group thanks to a narrow 1-0 win against Iran. Pulisic, who is arguably his nation’s most important player had to be taken off at half-time though.
Pulisic was eventually replaced by Leeds United winger Brendan Aaronson with the player not able to return after the break. The Chelsea star though did play on after the injury that occurred during the goal that he scored which could mean the injury is not serious.
The injury came from a collision with the Iranian goalie when he slotted home a Sergino Dest headed pass. Pulisic needed treatment in the aftermath of the injury but he did return to the pitch and did not show discomfort in playing until halftime.
It was later revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs that Pulisic was taken to the hospital for scans on what is currently being diagnosed as an abdominal injury. USMNT have later confirmed that the injury is a pelvic contusion and it remains to be seen if Captain America can return in time for his country’s round of 16 date with the Netherlands.
It will be unfortunate if the Chelsea star fails to recover from this latest setback as he is one of his country’s key players. In his absence, the USMNT might not be able to go far in this World Cup, a tournament in which they have won a lot of hearts with their performances.
It’s a shame for Pulisic to suffer an injury right now since he was having a brilliant World Cup until now. The American winger has been one of the stand-out stars in Qatar due to his influence on his team and his performances and he will be hoping that it is not serious.
The ideal scenario for the US national team would be if Pulisic can return in time for the game against the Netherlands. The Dutch are tough opponents to face but have not been at their best and the USMNT have shown they have what it takes to beat quality opposition.
