Chelsea plot friendly match this week as non-World Cup players return to training

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are plotting to play a behind-closed-doors friendly this week as the non-World Cup-bound players return to training on Tuesday (November 29th).

Players like Jorginho, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and co. are set to report for training after a two-week gap since the last competitive game against Newcastle United on November 12th.

It would also be interesting to see whether the players who missed the World Cup due to injuries will return this week or later. Out of the ones who missed the tournament were N’Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Wesley Fofana.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek picked up an injury against Newcastle while Armando Broja injured his ankle against Italy in an international friendly.

The Blues are scheduled to leave for their mid-season warm weather training in Abu Dhabi on December 4th. They are set to face Aston Villa in a friendly there on December 11th.

It would be the first time since his appointment on September 8th, Graham Potter would have an extended period of time on the training pitch with the player, albeit some of them are away representing their countries in Qatar.

With the hurricane of games that welcomed Potter after he arrived at Stamford Bridge, he may like this time to get to know the players better and also stamp his playing style on the squad as soon as possible.

Chelsea return to competitive action at home against Bournemouth in the Premier League on December 27th. They are eighth in the league having lost three of their last five games in this competition, only drawing the other two.

We hope that the players are ready to get going when the action resumes as we don’t have many points to waste if finishing in the top four is to be kept within sights.
