Chelsea join elite European teams in pursuit of £25m German forward

Chelsea join the race to sign Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko in January

According to Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea and Manchester United have joined Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko in January.

It is widely reported that a fee of around £25m could be enough to prise the talented youngster away from Germany since his contract expires at Dortmund at the end of this season.

It is also revealed that due to the lack of form of summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Blues would be tempted to make a move for Moukoko in the near future.

The issue is that the 17-year-old is linked with a host of other top European clubs, including Manchester City, Paris-Saint Germain and Barcelona. And that doesn’t come as a surprise, given how well he has performed at such a young age.

Moukoko made his debut in the 2020/21 season at the age of 15, but he has been getting regular game time this season onwards. The results are tremendous with him scoring six goals and assisting four in 14 league appearances.

As a culmination of his great season so far, the teenager has been selected for the German World Cup squad. It shows how much faith the national team boss Hansi Flick has in him. With the Germans struggling to replace Miroslav Klose in tournament football, we wouldn’t be surprised if Moukoko makes a positive impact in Qatar.

With regards to his attributes, the Dortmund academy product possesses good pace to make runs in behind, can play on the shoulder of the last line or drop deep to link up play, is a good finisher and is a good finder of space in the opposition box despite not being blessed with height to directly compete with centre-backs aerially.

More Chelsea News:

At a cut-price deal for a player whose ceiling is unending, Chelsea would not go wrong by making a move for Moukoko. Financially, this deal shouldn’t be an issue. It’s the interest from other heavyweights that may distract the destination of the player away from Stamford Bridge.
