A View From The Bridge

Chelsea could ‘accelerate’ move to sign 27-year-old Belgian forward in 2023

Chelsea could accelerate the move to sign Brighton forward Leandro Trossard

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, as quoted by Express (h/t Football.London), Chelsea could accelerate their move to sign Brighton and Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard.

The 27-year-old Belgian international has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge ever since former Seagulls manager Graham Potter took charge of the Blues.

The former Genk forward has made himself available for a move to Chelsea, provided he does not stay on the bench. In a recent interview, he talked about focusing on Brighton and the upcoming World Cup before thinking about making a move or dealing with clubs.

Trossard has been one of the in-form forwards in the Premier League this season. He scored seven goals and assisted two in 12 league appearances, including a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield and the opener against Chelsea in a 4-1 win for Brighton.

Having worked with Potter for two seasons before the manager parted ways with the Seagulls, the 27-year-old would have the tactical know-how of his former boss before coming to Chelsea. Moreover, the latter would have an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of the player, and where to best fit him in the team.

There could be an opening in the Blues forward line soon. The futures of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge are under threat, while backup striker Armando Broja is constantly linked with a move away from the club.

So, if Trossard arrives in January or next summer, provided he is flexible and can play in any position across the forward line, he would be a valuable addition to the squad.

The Belgian is not only good on the ball and producing the final product, but he is also very good off the ball and works hard for the team defensively.

More Chelsea News:

This can be quantified by the fact that Potter has played him as a wing-back in a few games last season, and the player came out with full marks with his performance in that position. So, he is flexible, effective and a team player.
