Chelsea to take tips from PL rivals on how to beat Borussia Dortmund

Chelsea to seek Manchester City help as they face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16

Chelsea will face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16, via the club’s official Twitter. The draw took place on Monday (7 November). The Blues have to get past the Bundesliga outfit on the road to the final at Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Turkey.

The Stamford Bridge side finished first in Group E of the prestigious European competition. We faced AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb to qualify for the next round.

Chelsea lost their first match in the group stages against the side from Croatia. It also marked Thomas Tuchel’s final game in charge of the Blues as we lost 1-0 to Zagreb at Maksimir Stadium.

Chelsea’s director of football operations David Barnard has told reporters (h/t the Express) that he is hoping to take tips from Manchester City about their opponents.

“Dortmund is one team that we’re yet to play in the Champions League, so we’re looking forward to going there. Man City were in their group so we hope to be talking to our friends at City to get a little bit of insight into Dortmund from that point of view.”

Dortmund finished second in Group G. They only lost one of their fixtures in the UCL this season and that was against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

With the arrival of Graham Potter, the Stamford Bridge side cruised past the Austrian and Italian champions to finish at the top. However, things seem to be unravelling for the English manager, as we have lost our last two games in the Premier League.

Chelsea held the title of being UCL champions for the first time in the 2011/12 season. We beat Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties to create history under Roberto Di Matteo.

Fans had the opportunity to see the team lift the prestigious trophy once again under Tuchel. The Blues beat PL rivals Manchester City 1-0 in 2021 in Portugal to get their hands on European silverware once more.

It is the first time the Stamford Bridge side will face the German outfit. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Christian Pulisic are former players of BVB currently in our ranks.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea manage to get past Dortmund in their quest for a third UCL title. We play the second leg of the tie at home.
