Transfer News: Chelsea attacker emerges as surprise January target for Arsenal

Arsenal set to try and sign out-of-favour Chelsea star Christian Pulisic

According to Daily Mail, London rivals Arsenal are set to try and sign out-of-favour Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic in the summer with Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United also expected to rival for the USMNT star.

Pulisic’s time at Chelsea has been a very weird one. Whilst there is absolutely no denying the potential that the talented winger has, injuries and a general lack of trust from managers has meant that the 24-year-old has not really gotten a chance to show his worth.

It’s not a coincidence that Pulisic is performing so well for the USA national team in the World Cup where he is the main focal point around whom everything goes through. Pulisic with the national team is a completely different beast whose potential we are not making use of.

At 24, Pulisic will know that it is determinantal for his career to not be playing regular football and could push for a move elsewhere in the January transfer window or at least in the summer. One thing that is evident is that he will not have a lack of offers.

The American international played a total of only 607 minutes of football in all competitions for the Blues in the first half of this season. That is criminally less for a player of Pulisic’s ability and the 24-year-old must be playing more often when fit.

Arsenal’s American director Josh Kroenke apparently has Pulisic lined up as the dream signing that would allow Arsenal to expand their scouting operations to North America, according to Football. London. Pulisic could be a huge name for the Gunners to sign in that regard.

Pulisic will not be the first American Arsenal are going after in recent times. MLS duo Matt Turner and Auston Trusty both joined the North London club in the summer and it does look like they will not be the last American players that they are signing.

Mikel Arteta is building something special at Arsenal and it is easy to see how a player like Pulisic will fit in. The 24-year-old can play anywhere across the front line and has the dribbling and passing abilities to succeed in Arteta’s possession-based system.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if his World Cup form prompts Chelsea and Graham Potter to give Pulisic another chance. If not, he is set to be on his move soon and it will be a story of what it could have been for the Blues.
