McCoist believes Zaha would walk into the Chelsea team

Ally McCoist urges Chelsea to sign Wilfried Zaha and believes the winger would walk into the team

Speaking on Talksport Radio (h/t Football.London), former Rangers striker Ally McCoist believes Wilfried Zaha would walk into the Chelsea team on current form and urges the Blues to sign the winger.

Zaha has his contract expiring at Crystal Palace at the end of this season, with no agreement on an extension yet. According to Daily Mail, Palace have verbally put the club’s record-breaking wages on the table to convince him to sign, but it seems as if he would leave the club come June.

Chelsea, along with London rivals Arsenal are linked with the player who has been a talisman at Selhurst Park for the past few seasons.

Talking about Zaha earning his stripes to move away from south London and walking into the Chelsea team on current form, here’s McCoist (h/t Football.London):

“On current form he is walking into the Chelsea team.

“What I would tell him is, ‘Go and follow your heart Wilfried’ – because the one thing he has earned is the respect of all the Palace fans, the respect of football fans up and down the country. I think Wilfried Zaha has absolutely earned his stripes.

“He does not owe anybody anything and he owes himself the opportunity to go and make the right decision, whatever he wants to do. If that is to stay at Palace, me, I’d be the same as the Palace fans, I’d be absolutely delighted.”

Zaha is having a great season as well, with five goals and an assist in 11 league appearances. It’s just not the goals and assists for him, he tends to start attacks for Palace and attract defenders towards him to leave other forwards in space to exploit.

Chiefly operating as a left winger, the 29-year-old is comfortable playing in any position across the forward line. He did an excellent job playing as a number nine against Liverpool at Anfield and could have scored more than one that night.

The good thing about Zaha is that his game doesn’t only revolve around playing in a counter-attacking system with space in behind the defence to exploit. He has good tight control, can take on defenders and generally does well even when the opposition double up on him.

So, Chelsea could a lot worse than signing him next summer. The Ivory Coast international has experience, goals, overall game and an abundance of self-belief to do well on the big stage.
