“I would not mind”- USMNT icon backs Christian Pulisic to leave Chelsea for this Premier League club

Real Madrid are interested in signing Christian Pulisic next summer.

Transfer News: Eric Wynalda backs Christian Pulisic to leave Chelsea for Newcastle United

Former USMNT forward Eric Wynalda has backed Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic to leave the club for Newcastle United. The 24-year-old has been of interest to the Magpies since this summer.

Speaking to Vegas Insider (h/t Football. London), the former USMNT forward believes he would not mind seeing the winger at St. James Park.

“Long term future he needs to be a left winger in a team where he’s going to get more time. I would not mind seeing Christian Pulisic wearing the black and white stripes of Newcastle.”

Pulisic joined the west London club in 2019 from German side Borussia Dortmund for £57.6 million. Since then, the winger has struggled to establish himself in the first team.

There were reports that the USMNT captain was unhappy with his role at the club and could seek to ply his trade elsewhere this summer. Newcastle were an interested party, but nothing came of it in the end.

Since Graham Potter’s appointment, the winger’s playing time has improved a bit. He seems to slowly be winning the trust of the coach and excelled in the right wing-back position during his side’s 2-1 against RB Salzburg, earlier this week.

Pulisic has played in 13 games so far this season in all competitions, scoring one goal and registering two assists in the process. His performance last time out puts him in contention to start the game against Brighton & Hove Albion later tonight.

While the winger may have struggled for game time, it would be unwise to sell him to a rival club. Newcastle appears to be targeting a European spot finish this season and to strengthen them in their pursuit would not be a wise decision on the Blue’s part.

Plus, the 24-year-old helps in adding depth to the squad, something that Potter will need for the congested fixtures in the second half of the season. It would make sense to keep the winger and assure him of garnering regular playing time rather than selling him.
