Transfer News: Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante could head to either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur next summer
Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante could head to either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur next summer once his contract expires at the west London club.
This is according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna (h/t Football. London), who claims that the midfielder wants to stay in London after his contract expires.
Such a claim has led to speculations and now two rival clubs, Arsenal and Spurs, have come out on top as a preferred destination for the 31-year-old French international. How well such a move could be treated by the Blues faithful remains to be seen.
Kante has hit a stalemate in his contract negotiations with the club. The midfielder wants a four-year deal as opposed to the two-year deal offered, as reported in the Metro earlier. Given his advanced age and recent injury troubles, a long-term deal might not be in the club’s best interests.
The Frenchman has been a pivotal part of his side’s midfield since moving here in the summer of 2016 from Leicester City. He has won all major trophies with the west London club and also won the World Cup with France.
But over the last couple of years, the midfielder has struggled with staying fit. He has missed a lot of games due to injury and has only played in two games so far this season.
Kante has not featured for the club since their 2-2 draw at home against Spurs in August. A fan favourite among the fans at the west London club, it will not be wise to allow the 31-year-old to leave for a rival club and that too for free.

It will be wise to either renew his contract or cash on his sale to a European rival rather than the local one. Despite his recent injuries, the midfielder is still one of the best in his trade on his day and could still offer a lot to his team.
