Transfer News: Chelsea in a five-way battle to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham
Chelsea are in a five-way battle to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. According to Sport (h/t The Sun), Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are also interested in the 19-year-old.
Bellingham moved to Germany in 2020 from Birmingham City and has since then exploded onto the scene. The England international has been touted to become one of the best in the world and is already proving that to be true.
A regular for both club and country, he is, without a doubt, one of the most talented young midfielders in Europe currently. It is hardly surprising to see the elite clubs showing such good interest in him and the Blues will have to battle with several European behemoths if they want England’s brightest up-and-coming star.
The England international has played in 18 games so far in all competitions scoring eight goals in the process. At just 19, the midfielder has already played in 108 games for Der BVB in all competitions.
Chelsea have a mix of young and experienced midfielders in their squad. The likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have a lot of experience under their belt, while Carney Chukwuemeka and Conor Gallagher are only improving every day.
Adding Bellingham to this up-and-coming midfield would instantly make it one of the best in the world. The thought of three England internationals in Gallagher, Bellingham and Mason Mount starting together for the Blues would make it a sight to watch for the fans.
But landing the midfielder will neither be easy nor cheap. The 19-year-old sees his current contract expire in 2025 and Dortmund are trying to tie him down to a new deal. Plus, the midfielder is more than likely to go to the World Cup next month and good performances there will only shoot up his stocks.

It is highly unlikely that the German giants will sell their star midfielder in January, but nothing can be said for the summer that will follow. With a host of elite clubs interested in him, it will hardly be surprising should a bidding war break out for his signature.
