Team News: Kai Havertz and Jorginho could miss out on Chelsea vs AC Milan
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea could be without the services of Kai Havertz and Jorginho when they take the field to face AC Milan in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge.
The duo trained with the team normally on Tuesday morning, but have picked up minor muscle injuries. Manager Graham Potter revealed in the press conference that Jorginho felt a bit of discomfort in his abdominal area against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Italian trained with the team but a decision on him will be taken late. On the other hand, there was no word from the boss on Havertz’s suspected muscle issue.
On a positive front, the Blues are set to recall goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and defender Marc Cucurella back into the squad for the game. The former missed the last three games due to a knee injury and the latter was ruled out of the Palace game after complaining about a throat problem.
N’Golo Kante, who has missed more than a month of action, has also been training with the team, but the game against Milan could come too soon for the Frenchman.
Conor Gallagher came off the bench and scored a stunning winner on Saturday. With Jorginho a doubt, there could potentially be an opportunity for him to start alongside Mateo Kovacic in midfield. Cucurella being available may mean Potter deploys a three-man defensive system at the back, just like he did against RB Salzburg.
Wesley Fofana has made a slow start to his life as a Chelsea player. It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman or Kalidou Koulibaly, who has much experience against Italian teams gets the nod to start alongside Thiago Silva in defence.
