Chelsea agree deal for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku
According to popular journalist David Ornstein via Football. London, Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign talented French forward Christopher Nkunku next summer and are willing to pay more than the €60m release clause that RB Leipzig have in his contract.
It emerged last week that Chelsea had held a secret medical for the talented 24-year-old French forward and were trying to wrap the deal up as soon as possible. It looks like they have succeeded in doing that and will end up getting the player next summer.
Ornstein claims that Nkunku has already signed a pre-contractual agreement to join the Blues next year and the clubs have also managed to come to an agreement. If everything goes well, then there is no doubt that the former PSG man will be a Chelsea player next season.
A product of the PSG youth academy, Nkunku never got a chance to showcase his abilities at the Parc de Princes due to the presence of stalwarts like Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Angel di Maria and Mauro Icardi amongst others.
Nkunku joined Leipzig from PSG in 2019. He really came into his own last season though when the 24-year-old really set the Bundesliga alight with his unbelievable footballing abilities. The numbers that Nkunku produced last season was utterly ridiculous.
In 52 matches for the German clubs last season, Nkunku managed to score 35 goals and provide 20 assists across all competitions in what was a truly unbelievable season. These numbers are still difficult to wrap one’s head around and it showed how talented the Frenchman was.
Even this season, the 24-year-old has started off pretty well. Whilst it might not be as astronomical as it was last season, Nkunku has still shown his quality this time around. In 12 matches this season, across all competitions, the talented forward has scored eight goals and provided one assist.
It is frightening to think of the heights that Nkunku could reach if he continues on the same vein. The talented attacker could be a huge success if he indeed joins Graham Potter’s project at Stamford Bridge and it would also be a solid move for him.
