A View From The Bridge

“Play like R9” – Chelsea striker reveals being inspired by legendary Brazilian ace

Armando Broja reveals his dad’s advice after first Chelsea goal

Speaking in an interview as quoted by Evening Standard, Albanian striker Armando Broja has revealed that his dad used to make him watch Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario videos when he was young, after scoring his first goal for Chelsea.

Broja, who has been trusted to play a role at Stamford Bridge this season managed to score his first goal of the season against Wolves in the Premier League. He scored the final goal in a 3-0 win for the Blues with Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic scoring the other two.

After an impressive loan stint at Southampton last season where the talented 21-year-old scored a lot of goals for Ralph Hassenhautl’s side, then-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel decided to put his faith behind the Albanian and give him a chance here.

Armando Broja has signed a new deal at Chelsea.

The German tactician may no longer be at the helm with Graham Potter taking over but the former Brighton manager seems to trust Broja too and has been giving him an important role off the bench. More performances like the one against Wolves and there is no doubt that he will get a starting berth.

Broja has played nine games for the Blues until now, all off the bench and has managed to score one goal across all competitions. The 21-year-old will want to start finding the net on a more regular basis as he looks to play a more prominent role in the side.

Speaking after his first goal, which undoubtedly had him delighted, the Blues striker revealed that his dad used to make him watch Ronaldo Nazario videos as he was his favourite player.

“He [Ronaldo Nazario] was my dad’s favourite player, still is my dad’s favourite play. He loved him, watched him all the time and always wanted me to play like R9”

It would have been a great birthday gift for his dad, with Broja scoring his first Chelsea goal on that day. If the Albanian could replicate the kind of scoring form that his favourite player showed, Broja’s dad will undoubtedly be a proud father and a happy football fan.

Broja seems to have a huge future in the game. Right now, he may be below Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the pecking order. However, with age on his side, there is absolutely no doubt that the Blues striker could get only better from here on.

More Chelsea News:

Even if the 21-year-old doesn’t have a future at Stamford Bridge, he will definitely be a success elsewhere. It remains to be seen how the future shapes up for Broja.
