Opponent Watch: Manchester United set to be without two attackers for Chelsea clash

Manchester United to be without Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo for the Chelsea clash

According to Metro, Manchester United will be without two strikers for the big game against Chelsea, with Anthony Martial ruled due to injury and Cristiano Ronaldo left out of the squad for disciplinary reasons.

Martial’s season continues to be hit badly by injuries. The Frenchman has only three Premier League appearances so far, one of them from the start. His latest injury is a back problem with no time frame on when he will return to action.

The removal of Ronaldo from the squad has been the big story in the past day or so. The Portuguese superstar refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur and left the ground before the full-time whistle. Manager Erik ten Hag took the decision to remove him from the squad as part of the consequence of his actions.

Anthony Martial to miss the Chelsea game due to a back problem.

This leaves United light on options up front. They started with a front three of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho against Spurs and did well. With no room to manoeuvre, ten Hag will have no choice but to start with them again against Chelsea on Saturday.

Despite the unavailability of two strikers, Manchester United have the threats to hurt Chelsea. The Blues are currently on a run of five consecutive clean sheets. So, they would be confident of keeping out the United attack at Stamford Bridge.

With how the league table looks at the moment, Graham Potter’s men are a point ahead of United in the fourth spot. So, a win this weekend could extend the gap between them and the chasing pack for the Champions League places.

More Chelsea News:

Potter rested Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva for the Brentford game. The trio should be back in the team and starting on Saturday to make Chelsea stronger than the team that played on Wednesday.
