Loan Watch: Chelsea loanee Malang Sarr scores one of strangest own goals for AS Monaco

The 23-year-old centre-back joined the French side on a season-long loan this summer. While the past few games have been good for the French defender, it was a disaster for him last night.

Sarr opened the scoring for his opponents after a funny mishap between him and the goalkeeper Alexander Nubel. Nubel received the ball in his penalty area and as usual, Sarr moved across the penalty area to receive a pass from his keeper.

However, due to miscommunication between the two, the keeper tried to make a pass to the full-back. The 23-year-old Chelsea loanee was caught in that crossfire as the ball hit the backside of the centre-back and then into the back of his net.

Things went from bad to worse for Philippe Clement’s side as the host scored three more in the second half to seal all three points for themselves. Sarr is hardly to blame for the first goal as he could not in any possible way duck out of the way.

Sarr has failed to establish himself in the Chelsea team, since joining them in 2020. This is his second loan spell, with the 23-year-old having spent the 2020/21 season on loan at FC Porto.

While the centre-back was a fringe player for the Blues last season, he was shipped out on loan again this summer. He has played seven games for the French side in all competitions this season.

More Chelsea News:

Unfortunately, this will not help his cause back home with Graham Potter. The centre-back still has a long season to go and it will be wise for him to avoid any more of such comical mishaps at the back.
