Graham Potter responds to Chelsea’s “secret” interest in Bundesliga star

Graham Potter refuses to comment on Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea rumours

Speaking in the post-match press conference after Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, new Blues boss Graham Potter has played down the rumours linking Chelsea to RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku and refused to comment on the same.

It was claimed that Chelsea had held a secret medical with the French talent and are trying to sign him up before other clubs get to know what is happening. However, the media managed to get the news out.

Nkunku has been absolutely sensational over the past 18 odd months. He joined Leipzig from PSG in 2019 and has now made the whole of Europe sit and take notice of him due to the kind of performances that he has put in the past few months.

This season, the 24-year-old has played 12 times for the Bundesliga club across all competitions. During this time, he has managed to score eight goals and provide one assist across all competitions. His numbers last season were exceptional too.

Nkunku has a contract with Leipzig until 2026 (transfermarkt). There is no doubt that the German club will demand a lot of money to sell their prized asset but considering how unbelievable Nkunku has been for quite some time now, it will be worth it.

When quizzed about the rumours linking Nkunku to the club, Graham Potter understandably played down the rumours and refused to talk about them.

It must not be misunderstood that the Blues have managed to sign Nkunku. They still have to reach an agreement with Leipzig and will want to sign the talented Frenchman as soon as possible. It remains to be seen how the Blues go about their negotiation.

It was only a matter of time before Nkunku made the big move to a ‘top’ club, with all due respect to RB Leipzig. Chelsea will not be a bad choice and it remains to be seen how they go about it.
