Graham Potter provides the latest injury update on Chelsea star Thiago Silva
Speaking in the aftermath of Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa as quoted by Football. London, Chelsea boss Graham Potter has provided an update on the injury sustained by Blues centre-back, Thiago Silva. The Brazilian felt a little bit of tightness in the hamstring towards the end of the game.
It was yet another flawless display from the Brazilian veteran who seems to be ageing like fine wine and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. However, his discomfort towards the end of the game is the last thing that the Blues want.
Chelsea emerged 2-0 winners against Aston Villa, with a sublime brace from Mason Mount. Although the first goal he scored was rather lucky, no one can take the second goal away from the diminutive English midfielder. It was a sublime free-kick from the midfield magician.
Another player who was absolutely sensational on the night was Spanish shot-stopper Kepa Arizzabalaga. The much-trolled goalie has been having a resurgence of sorts under Potter and has established himself as a starter ahead of Eduardo Mendy.
Thiago Silva was his usual self, commanding the backline and showing great awareness to shut out attacks at source. The Blues will be hoping that the veteran’s injury is nothing serious and that he will be back very soon but it remains to be seen.
Speaking about the player’s performance, Potter was very happy with what he saw but is hoping that Thiago is not injured.
“He is at the highest level you can think of as a character and as a man. How he leads the team, how he is playing, he has made some really important blocks and interceptions. He felt a little tightness in his hamstring so we’ll see how he recovers for Wednesday”
Wesley Fofana is already out with an injury for the Blues and will not be back before the end of the year. Another injury is the last thing that Potter wants at the moment, especially with Reece James also expected to miss the rest of the year for Chelsea.
In the absence of James, Potter is likely to play Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back which means that Kalidou Koulibaly and Trevoh Chalobah are the only two options to play in that position in the absence of Silva. Denis Zakaria is an option that can be tried there.

It remains to be seen how Thiago Silva’s injury shapes up. If he is not out for long, it will be ideal for the Blues and they must take care of the ageing Brazilian to make sure he remains fit throughout the season.
