Graham Potter ‘looking forward to working with’ Chelsea star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Chelsea manager Graham Potter is “looking forward to working with” Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined the Blues in the recent transfer window from Barcelona. The Gabonese was signed by Thomas Tuchel.
The 33-year-old is yet to score for Chelsea this season. Aubameyang has started for the Stamford Bridge side against Dinamo Zagreb and Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League. However, the Gabonese has not tasted victory yet in a blue shirt.
Speaking to the media via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, new boss Potter is raring to work with Aubameyang. The former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach praises the 33-year-old’s attitude.
“He’s a good guy, focused, wants to play, wants to score. Looking forward to working with Pierre.
“He has nothing to prove to me or anything negative in that regard. He’s acted as a top professional and person.”
Aubameyang played one game under our former German gaffer Tuchel in Croatia. The 33-year-old had previously linked up with the CL-winning manager at Borussia Dortmund. Unfortunately, their reunion was cut short after the 1-0 loss to Zagreb.
Potter was appointed after Tuchel’s dismissal. And our new gaffer took charge of his first competitive game in the Stamford Bridge dugout in the 1-1 draw against the Bundesliga outfit.
Aubameyang is yet to feature in the Premier League for us. Similarly, Potter has not taken charge of the Blues in a league fixture. It remains to be seen whether the Gabonese striker plays for the English manager against Crystal Palace.
Chelsea seemingly lacked a number nine with the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in the summer of 2022. The two rejoined their former clubs, Inter Milan and Salzburg, respectively.
Aubameyang was signed on deadline day for Tuchel. Before the 33-year-old’s arrival, the German evidently lacked a target man up front. Armando Broja was the only natural number nine, but the 21-year-old is still inexperienced.
