“Had a one-to-one chat”- Glenn Hoddle credits Graham Potter for rejuvenating this Chelsea star

Glenn Hoddle praises Chelsea boss Graham Potter for the resurgence of Mason Mount

Speaking to Optus Sport (h/t Football.London), former Chelsea player and player-manager Glenn Hoddle praises Graham Potter for helping Mason Mount in rejuvenating his game after a slow start to the season.

After a consistent and high-level season last time around, Mount made a slow and rocky start to this campaign under Thomas Tuchel. However, since Potter has taken over, the England international is starting to show his form.

Hoddle credits Potter’s man management and influence in helping the player get his mojo back. The 23-year-old did not have a goal or assist in the league before the weekend. He got two assists against Wolverhampton Wanderers in an impressive display on Saturday.

Here’s what the former England manager said (h/t Football.London):

“Today [Saturday] he was excellent. He looked as if he’s had his mojo back again and that confidence. I think Graham had a real influence on that; had a one-to-one chat with him which looks like it has given him that confidence.

He [Mount] is always going to give you everything. He’s back defending at times, and he’s got that little bit of everything. Today he was effective with the ball again.”

Not just Mount, but the whole Chelsea team made a slow start to the season under Tuchel. It was probably one of the reasons why the German was sacked despite all the good work he has done for the club in the recent past.

So far under Potter, things have been on an upward trajectory both for the player and the team. The Blues are on a run with three wins in all competitions since the international break, scoring eight and conceding just once.

With games coming in every three or four days till the World Cup, there are plenty of points to play for in the league and the Champions League. So, this positive trajectory needs to remain on the up rather than becoming flat or sliding down.

More Chelsea News:

For that to happen, Mount playing well will be one of the key factors. Not just the 23-year-old’s quality, but his flexibility and leadership in the team bodes well. He would be desperate to add more goals and assists to his name, the start of which has happened in the Wolves game.
