Thierry Henry believes Timo Werner failed at Chelsea because he did not ‘feel the love’ at the club. The Arsenal legend explained his claim while speaking to CBS Sport (h/t Evening Standard).
“Sometimes you go to some places, they don’t show you that love, I’m not saying he didn’t have it, but if he didn’t feel it like he felt it at Leipzig, then you aren’t going to be at your best and you won’t take the right decision.”
Werner joined the Blues in the summer of 2020 from RB Leipzig for £47.5 million. He was signed by then manager Frank Lampard to help solve the problems in the attack for the west London club.
However, things did not go according to plan. The striker was inconsistent in front of goal during his two-years at the club. He managed to score only 23 goals in 89 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
The German international also lost his place in the first team and after a turbulent two years at the club, he was sold back to Leipzig for £25 million this summer.
Werner seems to have found his form again in Germany. The 26-year-old has scored seven goals so far for Marco Rose’s side in all competitions.
Although the striker struggled in front of goal, he enjoyed good success with the club and was also a fan favourite at the Bridge. The 26-year-old won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup in his first season at the west London club.
Henry can say whatever he wants, but Werner was loved by the team and the fans. It was the striker who struggled to adapt himself to the Premier League and we believe it was for the best that he returned to Germany.
