Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker encourages Chelsea to sign Leandro Trossard
Speaking to BonusCodeBets (h/t Football.London), former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has encouraged Chelsea to sign Brighton and Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard.
Parker believes Trossard would improve the team, with his energy and pace being an ideal fit for Graham Potter’s system. He also claimed that the 27-year-old would do a better job for Belgium in the World Cup than the former Blues winger Eden Hazard.
Trossard has been linked with Chelsea since the time Potter left Brighton to arrive at Stamford Bridge as the new Blues manager. The player himself has encouraged the links and would not mind moving to west London, provided he doesn’t spend time on the bench regularly.
Talking about why Chelsea should Trossard, here’s Parker (h/t Football.London):
“Chelsea should sign Leandro Trossard, he would improve their team a lot. His energy and his pace would be a perfect fit for Chelsea under Graham Potter.
“I’m a big fan of Trossard, and I can’t believe that he is not a part of the Belgium national team. That is really strange, he would perform way better than Eden Hazard.”
The former Genk player would be well versed with the management style and tactical insights of Potter, having worked together with him at Brighton for three seasons and a bit. Thus, he wouldn’t take much time adapting to a playing system at Chelsea, and the overall work ethic needed to make that work.
Trossard’s form has been great this season as well. He scored a stunning hat-trick at Anfield against Liverpool and a very good goal at the Etihad against defending champions Manchester City. In total, the Belgian has six goals and two assists in 11 league appearances.
Along with his good conversion of attacking moments into final products, the 27-year-old is a tireless worker off the ball and doesn’t mind tracking back to help the defence. Positionally, he is flexible, having played in every position across the forward line and used as a wing-back in some games too.

So, all of these details do point in the direction of Chelsea benefitting from signing Trossard soon. The player is out of contract next summer. As a result, the Blues have the option to either sign him on a cut-price deal in January or sign him as a free agent in June if he doesn’t sign an extension until then.
