Contract situation of Chelsea target Leandro Trossard means he is of interest to Atletico Madrid
According to the Mirror (h/t Football.London), the contract situation of Chelsea target and Brighton and Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard means that he is of great interest to Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
The 27-year-old Belgium international’s current deal with the Seagulls expires in the coming summer. So, if there are no advancements on his contract extension, then Atletico can sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January.
Chelsea have been keen on signing him and reuniting him with manager Graham Potter, who has worked with the player in the last couple of seasons as a Brighton boss.
Trossard had had a great season so far, with five goals and two assists in nine league games, including a stunning hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield.
He is a versatile player who can play in most positions across the forward line and was also used as a wing-back by Potter in the latter half of last season.
With the future of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech uncertain at the club, there could be room to sign a player who can play in the wide areas up front.
Trossard possesses experience in the Premier League, along with a decent final product and a great work rate off the ball. Moreover, he would know more about Potter than many Chelsea players at this point because of the amount of time spent working together.
For a potentially cut-price deal in January or as a free agent in the summer, the Belgian could be a shrewd addition to the squad, both financially and footballing-wise.

So, Chelsea should make sure Atletico do not go ahead in this race to sign the 27-year-old. They can use the Potter card to lure the player to Stamford Bridge. Whether that works, only time will tell.
