Rio Ferdinand gives his verdict on AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori and his performance against Chelsea

Rio Ferdinand believes that the performance of Fikayo Tomori against Chelsea over the past week ‘could not have gone any worse.’ The AC Milan centre-back lost to his former side 5-0 on aggregate in a week and also was sent off in the reverse fixture at home.

Speaking to BT Sports (h/t Daily Mail) after the game, the former Manchester United player gave his verdict on the 24-year-old and also questioned his place in the England national team.

“The last two games, he’s probably showed two elements of his game where Gareth Southgate’s thinking: “I was justified in not picking him. Two big games, showpiece games for him to really put a marker down and stake his claim for a place in the England team. But these two games couldn’t have gone any worse for him in that sense.”

Tomori started both games against the Blues. In the first game in west London, the defender could hardly do anything as his side lost 3-0. Things got worse for him and his side in the reverse fixture.

He was sent off in the 18th minute after dragging back Mason Mount inside the penalty area. The Rossoneri went on to lose the game 2-0 at home and his former side climbed to the top of the group table.

Gareth Southgate had called up the centre-back last month for their Nations League games against Italy and Germany. The 24-year-old spent the game on the bench against the former, while he was not included in the matchday squad against the latter.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if the former Chelsea centre-back travels to Qatar for the World Cup next month. He and his team will hope to bounce back when Milan travels to play against Verona in the Serie A this Sunday.
